“The US side just announced that it will hold a meeting in Alaska on Friday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump. Russia and the US are close to each other, as Tas quoted, he said.
Previously, Trump said he wanted to meet his Russian counterpart in Alaska on August 15th. The US President made the announcement on his truth social page. This will be their first in-person meeting since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.
On August 7, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov announced that Russia and the US had agreed to a meeting between the two leaders in the coming days. That same day, Vladimir Putin confirmed preparations for the meeting with Trump and noted his mutual interest in the bilateral meeting.
These statements regarding upcoming meetings came after Steve Witkov, the special envoy of the special president who visited Moscow on August 6th and met with Putin. The conversation lasted about three hours.
