The Ukrainian drone attacks destroyed billions of dollars worth of Russian aircraft stationed at bases across the country, including far away in Siberia.
The epic operation known as SpiderWeb has been prepared in secret for over 18 months. Ukrainian agents moved short-range drones and explosives within Russia before they were remotely launched into Russia for Sunday’s coordinated strike aimed at attacking Moscow’s aviation advantage.
Vasyl Maliuk, head of Ukrainian Security Services (SBU), said the drones were smuggled into Russia, placed in containers and later loaded into trucks.
With the truck located near the Russian base, the container’s roof panels were lifted by a remotely activated mechanism, allowing the drone to pop out and launch an attack. The drones had technology, perhaps, that allowed them to operate remotely from Ukrainian territory, or FPVs, either first person perspective or FPVs.
The Russian Ministry of Defense (MOD) confirmed that “several units of aviation equipment” were damaged in the Ukrainian drone attack on Sunday.
On June 1, the Ukrainian regime launched a “terrorist” attack using first-person view (FPV) drones targeting airfields in the Russian Murmans, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Riazan and Amur regions.
A Ukrainian military official who spoke with Associated Press on condition of anonymity, releasing operational details, said the widespread attack took more than a year and a half, and Ukrainian Voldy Mirzelensky was personally overseen.
