Tehran – The first edition of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival, Iranian filmmaker Ramtin Berev’s documentary, The Last of the Whale Shark, won the festival’s special juj award.
The festival was held in China’s Yongchuan area of Chonggin Island, China, following the BRICS Summit and the first Asian Conference, from July 3rd to 7th, Mehr reported on Tuesday.
“The Last of the Whale Shark” follows a whale shark journey in search of soulmates in the ocean.
The Iranian film “Orange Forest,” directed by Arman Kansarian, “No Pre-Appointment” by Behrouz Shoaibi and “The Arms of the Tree” by Babak Khajepasha were also screened at the festival.
Organized by the Chinese Film Regime and the city government of Cheong Gin, the festival aims to strengthen people-to-people interactions between SCO members.
Under the theme of “The Charm of Technology & Film & Sco,” the five-day event featured a vibrant blend of cultural exchange, technological innovation and film excellence.
The festival featured a variety of activities, including a forum on international cooperation, cutting-edge technology, tourism initiatives, and an exhibition highlighting the epic drone light show.
This year we also marked an important milestone that marks the 130th anniversary of world cinema and 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema. Alongside the SCO Summit, the SCO Film Festival serves as an important event for the development of storytelling, collaboration and promoting mutual understanding among participating countries.
It featured 11 major activities, including screenings, forums, film technology expositions and gala concerts. The awards were announced in 10 categories, including Best Film and Best Director.
In total, 27 films from SCO countries were submitted, and a carefully selected lineup was screened throughout the festival.
