Regime forces on Thursday claimed they were targeting alleged Hezbollah strongholds and renewed their accusations that the Lebanese resistance group is refusing to disarm.
Despite the ceasefire, occupation forces continue to carry out near-daily attacks on Lebanese soil. Al Jazeera reported that Hezbollah remains committed to the ceasefire but said it would not hand over weapons while the Israeli invasion continues.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack as a “full-scale crime under international humanitarian law” and accused the regime of “terrifying and forcibly displacing civilians.” He added that Israel’s actions over the past year “demonstrate its rejection of any negotiated settlement.”
Lebanese state news agency reported that Israeli warplanes attacked a residential area in Tire’s Tura district, killing one Lebanese man and injuring eight others. Another civilian was injured in Tire Deba.
Al Jazeera correspondents said the attack, which came just hours after Hezbollah issued an open letter to Lebanese leaders reaffirming its defensive stance, was widely seen as an escalation.
Regime warplanes also violated Lebanese airspace over the southern suburbs of Beirut, a provocation often used as psychological warfare.
