Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghhai announced that the next round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington is scheduled for Sunday in Muscat following recent talks.
“Based on the consultation, the next round of indirect Iranian consultations is planned for the next Sunday in Muscat,” said a senior Iranian diplomat.
The US and Iran have been holding five rounds of nuclear talks starting April 12th, and are expected to meet again for negotiations aimed at reaching a new agreement. The two countries are at odds at the level of uranium enrichment.
On Monday, Baguey told reporters that enrichment is a strategic necessity for Iran’s nuclear industry and will serve the country’s national interests. “This indigenous technology has been developed through decades of sustainable efforts by Iranian scientists and is not a topic open to negotiation or compromise.”
He further emphasized that proposals that cannot secure Iran’s national interests are unacceptable. He said Iran will soon present its own proposal through Oman.
“We strongly encourage the American side not to waste this opportunity, and it is in their own interest to take it seriously,” he said.
