In an interview with Tasnim News Agency, Ali Shamhani is working on the country’s diplomatic approach to US policy towards Iran and Washington’s communications.
Shamkhani emphasized that the United States has consistently pursued a multi-layered strategy against Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
“Since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, the United States has used a combined package of Iran that includes military threats, psychological warfare, interference in Iran’s internal affairs and mobilisation of so-called allies. This is nothing new,” he said.
He emphasized that Iran is fully aware of this approach and does not consider it an unexpected tactic.
Shamhani emphasized Iran’s resilience in the face of external pressure, saying that the state would never succumb to the threat.
“We take all the threats seriously, not for surrender, not to counter them. The Iranian state has never accepted submission, and we firmly believe that America’s only advancement is to engage with Iran on a fair and logical framework.”
Referring to Iran’s response to Donald Trump’s former president’s letter, Shamhani explained that the response was drafted by the relevant government agency, reflecting a measured and controlled tone.
The US had a preferred communications channel, but Iran chose to send its response through Oman. This is a country that often functions as a mediator of diplomatic exchanges between Tehran and Washington.
“This response was sent to Americans via the Omani Channel. The US had another channel in mind, but Iran chose Oman as the medium of communication.”
Shamkani further reveals that Iran has been engaged in indirect dialogue with the United States for a long time, and the letter repeated Tehran’s preparation for such a discussion under certain conditions.
“Iran has always had indirect consultations with the United States, and this letter reaffirms that Iran is being prepared for indirect negotiations, but only if the discussion is based on an equal footing.
