On the occasion of the “Global Communications and Information Association Day” in Tehran on Saturday, Sattar Hashemi said investments of around $25 billion to $30 billion will be needed to achieve a 10% share of the digital economy (GDP) of the domestic gross domestic product (GDP).
He has put the total investment made by national operators last year (ends March 20, 2025) under $2 billion.
He said the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) designs mechanisms that attract capital and create effective economic incentives for the private sector in the country.
Iran has high potential in the international digital economy, adding that it is taking a major step in cooperation with countries including Venezuela’s Republic of Bolibaria in related fields.
The ministry’s main objective is to turn Iran into a link hub for the region’s “digital economy” ecosystem, and the path will continue through constructive interactions and cooperation with neighboring countries, Hasemi emphasized.
