The Taliban has vowed not to give up “even a meter” in Afghanistan after saying Donald Trump wanted the original US air base, Western media reported.
Bagram, Afghanistan’s largest air force base north of Kabul, was the center of US operations during a 20-year war with the Taliban.
The US president warned that “bad things” would happen if Kabul didn’t put the site back into US control four years after Kabul was abandoned by the US troops.
“Even if we recognize us and rebuild from scratch, we will not give up even a meter of this country, let alone Bagram,” said the country’s foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaki.
“This is our stance, and this is our stance.”
He said, “If that was possible, why didn’t they accept these transactions over 20 years ago after all martyrs and destruction?”
Muttaqi’s response follows Trump’s warning about his true social platform, saying, “If Afghanistan doesn’t return Bagram’s airbase to the people who built it, the United States, then something bad will happen!”
The US gave up control of Bagram in 2021 just before the Taliban took over Afghanistan. It served as a sign for US-led operations within the country for 20 years.
