He added that 86% of the territory has been released and systematic destruction of enemy forces is ongoing, RT reported.
During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Gerasimov reported on the situation in the Kursk region as one of the region’s commanders.
Over the past five days, Russian “northern” military groups have controlled 24 settlements and 259 square kilometres of territory, Gerasimov said. In certain regions, Russian forces advanced and crossed into the Smie region of Ukraine.
He also said that Ukrainian forces have killed 67,000 people in the region.
Gerasimov added that in the nearest future, the Ukrainian troops will be defeated at Kursk and Moscow’s troops will reach the border. He said that enemy soldiers had surrendered and 430 prisoners had already been taken.
Putin said Ukrainian prisoners should be treated “as terrorists in accordance with Russian law.”
The visit comes hours after media reported on the liberation of Suda, the largest Ukrainian city in the Kursk region. Social media videos appear to show Russian troops flying flags in the city centre. According to some reports, fighting is ongoing in the western and northwest suburbs of Sudzha.
Earlier this week, Russian troops recaptured 12 settlements and more than 100 kilometres of land in a surprising attack that allowed them to capture Sadoza’s industrial zone. The surgery was ready for months, with about 800 soldiers walking several miles through the empty gas pipeline permeating the Ukrainian position.
