Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghai reviewed recent diplomatic developments at his weekly press conference, noting that Iran had hosted delegations from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and South Korea for exchanges with their foreign ministers over the past two days.
Bagai said there are rapid developments on the international stage, adding that the main threat in the region remains the Israeli regime. He pointed to ongoing crimes in Lebanon, Syria and other countries in the region, saying that despite the existence of a ceasefire, violations continue to soar. He said Lebanon’s ceasefire has been broken hundreds of thousands of times and many Lebanese civilians have been assassinated. He added that there have been 600 ceasefire violations in Gaza.
Referring to the threat posed by the United States, Mr. Bagai said that the United States’ actions have turned it into the greatest threat to global security. He cited examples of coercion around the world, including threats against Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Brazil and Mexico in the Western Hemisphere. He said the US announcement to close another country’s airspace is unprecedented and violates all international norms, including aviation safety regulations. He also cited US pressure on African countries, including insisting that South Africa should not participate in the G20 summit.
Bagai added that the United States’ full support of the Israeli regime effectively makes it complicit in its actions. He argued that under normal circumstances, the UN Security Council should address these US actions as blatant violations of international peace and security.
Regarding Australia’s actions against the IRGC
Commenting on Australia’s recent accusations against the Revolutionary Guards, Baghai said Iran had officially clarified its position. He stressed that Australia’s move has no legal or factual basis and follows steps taken by Canberra in recent months.
He said misleading information previously provided to Australian authorities led to the downgrading of diplomatic engagement with Iran, but even Australian authorities, including regional police, have clearly stated that Iran is not involved in incidents involving actions against Jews.
Bagai said Australia’s decision was nothing but a political tribute to the Zionist regime.
Regarding Saudi FM Deputy Minister’s visit to Tehran
Baghai acknowledged that the Saudi deputy foreign minister’s recent visit to Tehran was part of a process that began two years ago.
He said that relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia continue to grow and discussions are taking place, including bilateral relations and regional issues such as Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
He added that both countries are committed to continuing this path towards strengthening stability in West Asia.
Regarding Israeli regime’s violation of ceasefire
Regarding ceasefire violations in Lebanon, Baghai said Israel has repeatedly concluded ceasefire agreements but has broken them. He noted that a UNIFIL spokesperson had reported 10,000 ceasefire violations, indicating that “there is virtually no ceasefire.”
He asserted that Israel targets not only the security and stability of neighboring countries, but also their development. Baghaei said such actions increase the responsibility of countries that claim to guarantee the ceasefire, while further undermining the credibility of countries that do not keep their promises.
Regarding talks with the European Troika
Baghai said Iran’s approach is consistent and meaningful negotiations will only take place if all parties acknowledge each other’s rights and legitimate concerns.
He stressed that Iran has not taken any escalatory measures. Instead, a resolution proposed by the European Troika caused an impasse.
He said that while dialogue with European countries continues at the diplomatic level, this does not automatically signal the resumption of formal negotiations. Recent contacts, including a telephone conversation with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kalas, are part of Iran’s ongoing diplomatic engagement, and this process will continue.
