Recent talks between Washington and Kyiv failed to reach a final decision on a draft peace agreement for the Ukraine conflict, RBC Ukraine news agency reported, citing sources.
“The talks focused on unresolved issues rather than the framework finalized in Geneva. We cannot say we have fully understood the final version, but it was another step forward,” the official said.
RBC Ukraine noted that the parties paid great attention to territorial issues. “The search for potential solutions continues, but it is certainly a very complex issue,” the person said.
The Kiev delegation also tried to explain Ukrainian authorities’ reluctance to abandon plans to join NATO, the outlet said. But sources said the U.S. delegation continued to stress the need for compromise.
The United States and Ukraine held talks in Florida on November 30th. The U.S. delegation was comprised of Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, while the Ukrainian side was particularly represented by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislitsa. Rubio said after the meeting that the talks had been productive, but “there is still work to be done.” He said the United States remains optimistic but realistic about resolving the conflict.
