White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said on Thursday that Israel “signed off” on the proposal to ceasefire, and that Steve Witkoff, the Trump administration’s Middle Eastern mission, submitted it to Hamas for consideration.
Bass Naim, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau, told Reuters that the deal “stops the war within them, which does not meet the demands of our people above all.”
“Nevertheless, movement leadership is researching its response to proposals with national responsibility,” Naim added.
Hamas will respond on Friday or Saturday, sources from the Palestinian group told Reuters.
Details of the new proposal have not been made public, but Hamas official Sami Abu Zuri told Reuters it does not contain Israel’s commitment to end the war from Israel, withdrawing Israeli forces from the enclave, and allowing aid to freely enter the territory of the war.
