The State Department said it accused two China-based terminal operators of crude and petroleum products of importing “millions of barrels” of Iranian crude oil mounted on multiple US-designated tankers.
The Ministry of Finance also designated the Greek National Antonios Margarh Flame, along with his network of businesses and vessels, as it allegedly exploited his position in the shipping industry to move Iranian oil. Several other vessels and operators said Washington will generate revenue that contributes to Iran’s advanced weapons program, as it allegedly promoted Iran’s oil exports.
“These actions will diminish Tehran’s ability to fund advanced weapons programs, support terrorist groups and threaten the security of its military and allies,” the Treasury Department Scott Bescent argued in a statement.
Despite US sanctions over Iran’s oil trade tightening, statistics show that oil exports to major Tehran importers have continued over the past few months.
