TEHRAN – Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons despite assessments by the International Atomic Energy Agency that it has rapidly increased its enrichment of uranium to a level sufficient to allow Tehran to build some weapons, the public reported.
That’s the view of the US intelligence news community on its annual threat assessment released on March 25th.
“We continue to appreciate Iran’s lack of building nuclear weapons,” the report said.
US Intelligence Community View
The 31-page report presents the joint views of up to 18 US Intelligence Agency, from the CIA, the US Foreign Intelligence Agency, to the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency that monitors communications, and the National Reconnaissance Agency, which operates the SPY satellite.
Observers who are listening to President Donald Trump may be surprised that they are warning Iran to suspend its nuclear research program or face military consequences.
The report was released as Iran revealed much of its vast underground military infrastructure on Tuesday. Some are bases dedicated to protecting nuclear facilities from air attacks, and are specialized in residential drones and missiles.
Iranian state media showed video of an underground “missile city” being toured by Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheeri, chief of staff of Iranian military forces, and Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commanding the aerospace force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
Iran has shown several similar underground bases, residential drones, attack boats and even fighter jets in the past.
