The disastrous beginnings of food distribution, coordinated by the newly created Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, confirmed that US Israel’s plan to equip aid is ineffective,” Press TV said in a statement Friday.
Dozens of people were shot and wounded by Israeli forces on the first afternoon of distribution in the southern city of Rafa on Tuesday.
“Palestinians were deprived of food, water and medical aid for nearly three months, but were waiting to receive basic necessities for survival, so it was written on the fence. This reminds me of the inhuman treatment imposed by Israeli authorities for over 19 months.”
Emphasizing that the approach is “dangerous and reckless,” Lockyear said, “food is not distributed where it is most needed, but is only directed to areas where Israeli forces choose to accumulate civilians instead.”
“This means that the most vulnerable people, especially those with older adults and disabled people, are unlikely to have access to the food they desperately need.”
He added that “the “failed mechanism that is not causing this” appears to be a “cynical” trick to pose as compliance with international humanitarian law.
“In fact, it uses aid as a tool to force people away as part of a broader strategy to ethnically cleanse the Gaza Strip, justifying the continuation of the war unfolding without restrictions.
“On the other hand, the humanitarian system is being strangled by the restrictions imposed on it. Israeli authorities have allowed trickle aid trucks to Gaza, blocking them shortly after crossing the border, preventing them from saving lives to those who need them most, including children and pregnant women.”
Lockyear said it would force humanitarian organizations to provide inadequate assistance to society that has been forced to the brink amidst chaos.
“Warming aid in this way, in addition to evacuation orders and bombing campaigns that kill civilians, could constitute a crime against humanity.”
Lockyear called for the opening of a “permanent ceasefire” and “immediate” Gaza border line for humanitarian assistance, including food, medical supplies, fuel and equipment, to facilitate “this artificial catastrophe.”
Israel launched its genocide campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023. At least 54,321 Palestinians have been killed so far, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
