TEHRAN – Washington’s proposal to Tehran includes enrichment of uranium on Iranian soil, according to the report, US President Donald Trump’s public claims contradict the Islamic Republic must abandon its enrichment activities altogether.
American News website Axios published a report Tuesday, citing “two sources with direct knowledge” on details of the plan.
The US says it submitted a proposal to Iran via Oman on Saturday. On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci confirmed that the country had “elements” of the US proposal through his Omani counterpart, pointing out that the Islamic Republic would respond with the rights and principles of the country in mind.
Citing one of the sources as details of the proposal, Axios said the Islamic Republic could enrich uranium to a purity level of “3 percent.”
Standing transactions involving the Islamic Republic and other countries have set a 3.6% enrichment cap.
