TEHRAN – The White House responded to an exclusive report by the Tehran Times, revealing on Sunday that Iran had prepared missiles in a vast underground facility to respond to a potential US attack on nuclear facilities.
James Hewitt, communications director for the White House National Security Council, told the Washington Free Beacon that Trump would not be “kind” to what he called a “military threat.” He seemed conveniently ignoring the reason why Iran took an alert attitude in the first place.
“The president has made it clear that he prefers direct diplomatic channels with Tehran, or if they don’t finish their work to obtain nuclear weapons, they will face serious consequences,” he said.
In Trump’s “diplomacy” version, Tehran requires that all terms be accepted for a new agreement. The report includes not only a complete demolition of Iran’s nuclear program, but also aspects of its relationship with Western Asian resistance groups, as well as aspects of missile and drone programs.
Trump said he would bomb Iran if the deal was not signed. Iranian officials have insisted they will not negotiate with the US under current circumstances.
