The Zangezur corridor belongs to the Naktiban on the mainland of Azerbaijan and is a 43-kilometer land route that passes through the Sinik province of Armenia. Armenia expressed its opposition in the plan, saying it was violating its sovereignty.
To discuss this issue, Mehr contacted Doğu Prince, a veteran politician and leader of the Turkish patriotic party.
Turkish politicians stressed that the project poses a threat to Turkey and Iran’s security and the need for regional countries to unite as they confront foreign interference.
Here are the questions and answers from the interview with Prinsk:
Q: Iran has repeatedly said it will not allow changes to regional borders or geopolitics. What about Türkiye and Azerbaijan? Do they still want to release the Zangezur corridor? Recently, the issues involved in managing this corridor have been raised by the media, meaning the presence of Americans at their shared border with Iran. Can’t the presence of such a country in this region threaten the security of other countries? Is the turkey blackmailed?
The Zangezur Hallway is an Israeli-American project. This is very clear and should be understandable by everyone. At the very least, we understand this as a patriotic party in Turkey.
What is this corridor for? This corridor prevents connections between the South Caucasus, i.e. Iran and countries such as Armenia, Georgia, and Russia. For this reason, this corridor is an American and Israeli project and undoubtedly a threat to Türkiye’s security.
What are the issues that threaten Türkiye? Of course, that is Israel and America. Therefore, actions taken by the United States and Israel threaten Turkey. That’s why this issue is a concern for us as a patriotic party. You can see that the turkey is surrounded by the US.
Because the United States and Israel work together with the Greek parts of the eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus. We are witnessing naval exercises like “Nobledina” exercises. The Aegean coast is also full of American bases. Therefore, Turkey is surrounded by America from the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean to northern Syria and Iraq, and the issue currently under discussion is the presence of Israel and America in the Caucasus. That is why the Zangezur corridor is a serious threat to Turkey, and as a patriotic party, we are opposed to the implementation of this project.
Q: Instead of Zangezur, you can activate other corridors in Armenia and Iran. The Zangezur corridor is a direct threat to Iran’s security and economic interests, but Turkey still places importance on implementing this corridor. This means threatening the safety of Türkiye while it means threatening the safety of Iran. Why isn’t Türkiye paying attention to this issue?
The Zangezur corridor represents the connections from east to west, and west to east. However, if this connection is used to cut off the relationship between the south and north, this corridor also serves as a wall to relations between Iran and the country in the corridor of Zanjur. For this reason, this corridor is a project for Iran and Türkiye’s economic security.
Anyone who focuses on the US and Israel should show this important point, but if they don’t care about the threats of America and Israel, they will not see the power to fight imperialism on their part.
What do you think is the best way to solve the Zangezur corridor problem?
The best solution is to unite the countries of the region against America and Israel. Which country in your area? Iran, Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Armenia, Georgia and Russia, and even Kazakhstan. These countries in the South and North Caucasus must find their own solutions to maintain economic security.
Therefore, ending US-Israel engagement is the solution.
Finally, are there any more comments?
I would also like to add that the main solutions for Zangezur are determined by the countries in this region. In other words, there is an east-to-west connection, but this communication corridor is not the cause of blocking north-south connections. Establish a South North connection together. I mean Iran and the Northern relations.
