A curfew is now in place in parts of downtown Los Angeles, and police say they began arresting protesters on Tuesday evening. The scattered demonstrations also appear in several U.S. cities, with Texas deploying National Guard accordingly.
The curfew is set up for pockets in downtown Los Angeles, where city demonstrations are concentrated. Applied between 8pm and 6am Pacific time, LA Mayor Karenbus said it could be effective for several days. It covers about a square mile of area, affecting less than 100,000 of LA’s 4 million residents, CNN reported.
Los Angeles police said they began “mass arrests” late Tuesday. Previously, police said dozens of people were detained for not dispersing in illegal gathering areas. LAPD said at least 378 people had been arrested in the past four days, the CNN report added.
Inspired by the Los Angeles demonstrations, Texas protesters have recently come together to challenge the Trump administration’s fundamental immigration crackdown.
Like California, Lone Star State is one of the largest immigrant groups in the country. Over the past few days, demonstrators said they were speaking out for members of their community.
“Immigration is the backbone of our society. Once again, they are all of us. They are our families. They are our community members.
