The claims of the United States and three European countries (UK, France, and Germany) regarding the reinstatement of UN Security Council resolutions lifted in 2015 under the JCPOA are invalid and should not be given any legal effect by other countries.
At the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) foreign ministers meeting in Uganda on Wednesday, top diplomats outlined Iran’s position in an official address to parliament.
He stressed the importance of upholding the fundamental principles of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in particular the right of States to self-determination, respect for the United Nations Charter, prohibition of the use of force and condemnation of unilateral coercion.
He called for greater solidarity and unity among developing countries to confront the growing challenges and threats posed by unilateralism and the hegemonic ambitions of some great powers.
Minister Aragushi referred to the recent aggressive actions by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran in June, calling these actions a clear violation of international law and an act of defiance, and warned of the continued threat posed by these actors to world peace and security.
Aragushi also slammed the three European countries for abusing the JCPOA dispute settlement mechanism and attempting to reinstate a UN Security Council resolution against Iran that had been lifted. This initiative faced opposition from several members of the Security Council, including two permanent members. He ruled the move illegal and without legal effect.
Mr. Aragushi stressed that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 expires on October 18, 2025, and called on NAM Member States to oppose the misuse of international institutions, especially the Security Council, for coercion and pressure on developing countries.
He further emphasized that, given the lack of jurisdiction of the three European countries, their bad faith, and the clear opposition of the two permanent members of the Security Council, the claims of the United States and the three European countries regarding the reinstatement of the 2015 resolution under the JCPOA are invalid and should not be granted legal validity by any country.
Regarding the Palestine issue, Mr. Aragushi described it as one of the most important international problems and said that it cannot be resolved unless its root cause is addressed: the occupation and denial of the Palestinian people’s fundamental right to self-determination.
He affirmed the legitimate and legal right of the Palestinian people to continue their struggle for self-determination and stressed the responsibility of all governments in this regard.
Alaghushi stressed that Iran supports all measures to stop the genocide of Palestinians, remove the occupiers from Gaza, provide unhindered humanitarian assistance and rebuild Gaza, and stressed the need to end the impunity of the Israeli regime and prosecute those responsible for its crimes.
Finally, Mr. Aragushi stressed the importance of solidarity and support for NAM member states, including Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Belarus, and Iran, who are facing unilateral and coercive actions by the United States.
