The US (US) West Virginia is planning to send 300-400 national guards to the capital, reported by the German press (DPA), and said it would help restore “cleanliness and safety” at the government’s request.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said on social media platform X that he has approved the country’s capital to deploy 200 national security guards “to support President Trump on his mission to restore law and order.”
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said he has allowed 150 Ohio State Guard members to be sent “to perform patrols and act as a stronger security,” according to U.S. media reports.
Trump justified the development by citing rising crime and public disability in Washington. It claims this is not reflected in official crime statistics. Critics say the move appears to be aimed at demonstrating strength amidst domestic political pressure.
Additional forces are intended to supplement the previously announced conditions of the 800 national security guards, citing government sources, U.S. media reported.
Unlike current unarmed patrols, new units can carry weapons, according to the Wall Street Journal. The military said Washington National Guard has personal protective equipment, including body armor, but weapons will remain stored unless necessary.
