Alaeddin Boljerdi, member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, referred to the recent stance of the European Union and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) towards Iran, and emphasized that the PGCC-EU’s recent stance is consistent with the United States’ maximum pressure on the country.
He stressed that the three islands, including Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, are an inseparable and integral part of the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and any interference or comments by any country or entity in this regard is strongly condemned.
He reacted to the recent positions of some European countries towards Iran, pointing out that Europeans do not have political independence and follow US policy in many decisions.
Boljerdi stressed that the proposals to return six UN resolutions, activate the snapback mechanism and hold a joint summit with Gulf Cooperation Council countries can all be analyzed within the framework of US political pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Iran will not allow Western countries to influence its logical and strategic policies in order to strengthen relations with its neighbors,” he said, adding that any illegal positions on parts of Iranian territory would be met with a firm response from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghai dismissed interventionist and unsubstantiated claims raised in a joint statement by the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and the European Union, including repeated unsubstantiated claims by the United Arab Emirates regarding Iran’s Greater Tunbu, Lesser Tunbu and Abu Musa islands, and interference in Iran’s defense and nuclear affairs.
