TEHRAN – After a heavy attack on American aircraft airlines by Yemeni forces, US Navy fighter jets have been lost in the Red Sea.
The F/A-18E Super Hornet sprinted into the Red Sea after sliding down from aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman.
According to CNN, US officials said Truman suddenly avoided a sharp fire, causing the jet to slide off the deck and into the sea.
Navy officials said the F/A-18 was towed through the hangar bay as crew members lost control and placed the jet overboard.
“The aircraft and towing tractors were lost overboard,” the US Navy said in a statement. “The crew towing the aircraft moved quickly before it fell. An investigation is underway.”
Another US official told CNN that the jet had been sunk. Other reports suggest that fighters slipped when the Yemeni fire forced the aircraft’s carriers to make a “hard turn.”
Each F/A-18 Super Hornet costs over $60 million.
Previously, the Yemeni army had argued responsibility for military operations targeting Harry S. Truman and his escort ships.
Sanaa’s government described the strike as quick and direct retaliation for two US massacres in Saada and Sanaa, Yemen’s capital.
Yemeni Army spokesman Brigadier Yahya Saree said the attack involved naval units, drones and missile forces, and fired cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones at the carrier.
Surry said the attack forced Truman to retreat from its original position and move to the far northern region of the Red Sea.
He added that the operation “had dozens of civilian casualties in response to the massacre of two people committed by the American enemy in Yemen, the first Sanaa in the capital and the second massacre targeting Governor Sada’s African immigrants.”
Yemeni forces vowed to continue targeting carriers and hostile warships in both the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea until the end of the US invasion of Yemen.
In solidarity between the Palestinian people and Gaza’s resistance fighters, Yemeni drones targeted strategic Israeli sites in the Ashkelon region, which were occupied using Jafa drones.
Sally confirmed that the troops will continue to block Israeli voyages in the Red and Arabian seas, and support the Palestinians until the US-backed war of genocide is over and the siege of Gaza is lifted.
Yemeni forces have launched repeated attacks on US warships as the US increased its military presence in the region to protect Israel’s interests.
