The United States has announced sanctions against four judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC), an international legal body responsible for investigating and attempting individuals accused of serious violations of international law.
The court fired our anger when it issued an arrest warrant to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Joav Gallant on suspicion of abuse in Gaza, including crimes and war crimes in Gaza, Al Jazeera reported.
The ICC also attracted US opposition by investigating alleged war crimes committed by US troops in Afghanistan.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the sanctions would target Uganda’s Solomy Barungi Bosa, Peru’s Ruz del Carmen Ibanez Karanza, Benin’s Rain Adelaide Sophie Arapini Gunsou and Slovenia’s Betty Holler.
“As ICC judges, these four individuals are actively involved in the ICC’s non-giatial, unfounded actions targeted at the US or our ally Israel. The ICC is politicized and falsely asserts its free discretion to investigate, accuse and prosecute the citizens of the US and our ally,” Rubio said in a statement.
