“According to the US proposal is that in principle an agreement has been agreed to hold bilateral meetings at the highest level in the coming days,” the president’s aide Yuri Ushakov told the Russian news agency on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.
Trump has recently suggested that a meeting could happen soon. “I’ve had some very good talks with Putin today, and there’s a very good chance that we can finish the round, the end of that road,” he told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday evening.
Ushakov said the venue for the meeting has already been decided and details will be announced later. He did not specify when this information would be released.
However, according to Russian national media, Ushkov downplayed the prospects of a trilateral meeting that could include Ukrainian President Voldymi Zelensky.
Witkov met with Putin in Moscow on Wednesday, at what Trump called a “very productive meeting” on true society.
“First of all, I suggest focusing on preparing for a bilateral meeting with Trump, and I believe that it is paramount that this meeting is successful and productive,” Ushakov said.
The news comes the day before President Trump agreed to Russia’s ceasefire agreement with Ukraine or to face punitive sanctions. It is unclear whether the deadline for Trump’s ceasefire is still up.
Trump was asked on July 14th that he was willing to proceed to protect Ukraine if Putin escalates his attack despite his ceasefire deadline set for September 2 before moving to Friday.
“I want to solve the war… I have a problem, I have a problem with (Vice President) JD (vance). They don’t mean Americans die, but a lot of people die and there’s a lot to solve,” he said.
Trump was previously attacked for his approach to Putin, who has been criticising outdoor officials for time in negotiations to allow Russian troops to occupy more Ukrainian lands.
Putin shows little on a daily basis that he has no intention of offering concessions.
On Thursday, at least six people were killed across Ukraine, with 35 more injured throughout Ukraine as Russia launched an overnight attack in Zaporidia and Donetsk regions.
According to regional governor Ivan Fedorov, the attack was part of 723 strikes across 12 villages in Zaporidia Oblast in the last 24 hours.
