President Donald Trump argued that neither the Panama Canal nor the Suez Canal would “exist” without the United States, and demanded that American commercial and military vessels be allowed to pass through important waterways for free, RT reported.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his intention to “reclaim” control of the Panama Canal, using economic or military measures where necessary. On Saturday, the US president’s desire to protect America’s “national security” interests from China’s competition reached another strategic waterway, Egypt’s Suez Canal, which links the Mediterranean with the Red Sea.
“Both military and commercial American ships should be allowed to travel free of charge to pass through the Panama and the Suez Canal! These canals do not exist without the United States,” the president said in the Social Post of Truth.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already been instructed to “take care of this situation quickly and make it a memorial.”
