US President Donald Trump plans to visit Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip of his second term in mid-May, and Axios reported on Sunday, citing two US officials and sources with knowledge of presidential travel.
Earlier this month, Trump said it is likely that Riyadh will seal an agreement to invest more than $1 trillion in the US economy, including purchasing military equipment, to make his first trip to Saudi Arabia.
He said on March 6th he would probably travel there in the next month and a half. He said his first international trip in his first term was in Riyadh in 2017, announcing Saudi Arabia investment, which was then estimated to be worth $350 billion.
Axios reported that potential trips have been discussed in recent weeks between senior US officials and their Saudi counterparts, including bystanders of talks about the war in Ukraine, according to sources.
