President Trump has ordered “decisive” military action against Yemen’s Hooti rebels and has opened a new salvo to Iranian support groups targeting transport lanes in the Red Sea.
Trump said the US will develop “overwhelming, deadly force” against the group “until it reaches its target.”
“They have launched a relentless campaign of copyright infringement, violence and terrorism against America and others, ships, aircraft and drones,” Trump writes of the True Society.
He said US officials were conducting air attacks on Houthi bases, leaders and missile defenses “to protect American transport, aviation and naval assets and restore freedom of navigation.”
“Terrorist forces will not stop American commercial and naval vessels from sailing freely through the waterways of the world,” Trump wrote.
For months, the United States has worked to dismantle the capabilities of Huuthi for several months as it worked to disrupt the international shipping vehicles in the Red Sea, one of the busiest waterways in the world, and to disrupt the international shipping vehicles in the Red Sea, which it calls its response to Israel’s war against Hamas. The group targets more than 100 ships and ships, including drones, missiles and small ships.
The Biden administration tried to respond by carrying out targeted strikes on Yemen’s Houthi position, including attacking underground arms storage facilities in October and November, but actions did not prevent further attacks.
Houthis previously promised to halt attacks on ships in the Red Sea as long as the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was maintained. For more than a year, the group had been in a prolonged crisis in busy transport corridors at sea, attacking cargo ships called Revenge against Israel for its military campaign in Gaza.
“The ban will continue until the intersection into the Gaza Strip is opened and food and medicine needs are allowed to enter,” Houthis said Tuesday.
Earlier this year, Trump signed an order designating “foreign terrorist organizations” as the Houtis.
In his message, Trump said the Biden administration’s approach to Hoosis was “patheticly weak so the uncontrolled Hoosis just kept going.”
“It’s been more than a year since a US flagged commercial vessel safely sailed through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea or the Gulf of Aden. The last American warship to pass through the Red Sea four months ago was attacked by more than a dozen times,” he wrote.
“The Iran-funded Houthi Thugs launched missiles with US aircraft and targeted the troops and allies. These relentless attacks cost the US and the world economy billions of dollars, but at the same time risking innocent lives,” he continued.
“For all Houthi terrorists, your time is increasing. And your attacks must stop from today, or hell will rain on you like something you’ve never seen before!” he said.
The president also provided a message to Iran, who supports the group.
“To Iran: Houthi’s support for terrorists must end soon! Americans who have received one of the biggest orders in presidential history or the global shipping lane, don’t intimidate their president. If so, America will hold you completely responsible and we won’t be good about it!” the president wrote.
