“I would imagine meeting Putin at the right time,” Trump spoke to an Air Force 1 reporter on Sunday. When asked if he had a phone conversation with Putin before or after taking office on January 20th, Trump said, “I had. Let’s say I had. And I’d have more conversations. I hope that we will do that,” he added. Commenting on the Ukraine conflict, Trump emphasized, “We must end that war, and we must close it soon.”
When reporters said that everyone would assume he was talking to Putin regularly, unless he made it clear, Trump replied: “Well, they make sense. Well, I don’t want to talk about it. I’m talking, I don’t want to tell you about the conversation, it’s too early, but I believe we’re making progress.”
On Saturday, the New York Post reported that Trump had spoken over the phone with Putin to try to negotiate an end to the Ukraine conflict.
Subsidized by the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said he could not confirm or deny any reports of contact information between the two leaders.
