The head of state agreed that “the parties will continue to carry out the Geneva consensus and will hold a new round of negotiations as soon as possible.”
“Both sides need to effectively use the mechanisms of trade and economic consultation, adhere to equal relationships, respect each other’s interests, and strive for mutually beneficial outcomes,” Xi said.
He added that China is sincere and principled in this regard.
Negotiations on trade and economic issues between the US and China took place in Switzerland from May 10-11. The two sides agreed to talks on May 14th to reduce import duties.
The Chinese president said, “Words should always be followed by actions, and actions should have consequences.” He added that as the consensus has been reached in Geneva, both sides must adhere to it.
The two sides will strengthen diplomacy, trade and economic cooperation, strengthen interactions between military and law enforcement, and “reduce misunderstandings and strengthen cooperation,” Xi said.
