The alliance of Donald Trump and Elon Musk took off like one of SpaceX’s rockets. It was overcharged and soared high. And it exploded.
The epic flames peaked as Trump threatened to cut Musk’s government contracts, and Musk claimed he hasn’t released all records related to Trump abuser Jeffrey Epstein as Trump is mentioned.
The tech entrepreneur shared a social media post calling for Trump’s bluff each, distorting the president’s signature tariffs and predicting a recession this year.
The nasty explosion between the US president and the world’s wealthiest man unfolded on their respective social media platforms after Trump was asked at a White House meeting with new German leaders about criticism of the mask spending bill.
Trump remained largely silent as Musk slammed the president’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” as he simmered on his social media platform X for the past few days. But Trump applauded in his oval office on Thursday, saying he was “very disappointed with Musk.”
Musk responded in real time on social media. Trump, who was to spend Thursday about the end of the Russian-Ukraine war with German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, threatened to use the US government to undermine masks by turning his eyes to his social media network, Truth Social, and chasing contracts held by his internet companies Starlink and Rocket Company Spacex.
“The easiest way to save money on our budget, billions, billions of dollars is to end Elon’s government subsidies and contracts,” Trump wrote on social media networks.
“Now, make my day,” Musk replied with an X immediately.
Hours later, Musk announced that SpaceX would begin to abolish the spacecraft that it used to transport astronauts and cargo to NASA’s International Space Station.
Musk also said, without providing evidence of how he knows the information, Trump said, “It’s in the Epstein Files. That’s the real reason they’re not publicly available. Have a good day, DJT!”
The deep clefts that were so widened as their relationship began are spreading rapidly, violently, very publicly. And it quickly hit the musk financially.
After Trump began criticizing Musk, his electric car company Tesla shares plummeted more than 14%, knocking around $150 billion from Tesla’s market valuation. Musk lost about $20 billion in Tesla’s personal retention.
Politicians and their donor users rarely look to their eyes. But Musk’s magnitude of support for Trump has spent at least $250 million on his campaign, and the extent of the free reins that the president gave him to delve into cutting and delving into the government’s efficiency department is only covered by the speed of their dropout.
Musk offered a particularly stinging insult to the president who is sensitive about his position among voters. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” Musk retorted. “That kind of dissatisfaction,” Musk added in his follow-up post.
Musk was the first to announce his support for Trump shortly after the then Candy Date was almost assassinated at a Pennsylvania rally last July. News from the Mask’s Political Action Committee, which will help Trump’s election, came days later.
Musk quickly became close advisors and frequent companions, jumping into the air behind Trump on stage at a rally in October. Once Trump was elected, the tech billionaire stood behind him, taking his oath of office, staying in María Lago over the weekend, sleeping in Lincoln’s bedroom, wearing a Maga hat, joining the cabinet meeting.
Three months ago, Trump bought a red Tesla from his mask as a public show in support of his business in the face of blowback.
Musk said goodbye to Trump last week, saying at a somewhat gloomy press conference in an oval office that he came from his young son, but that black eyes seemed like a phor of a troublesome period in government service.
Trump rarely misses the opportunity to make critics passionately on his appearance, but he nurtured it on Thursday.
“I said, ‘Do you want a little makeup? We’ll get you a little makeup.’ Interesting,” Trump said.
The Republican president’s comments came as Musk warned of an increase in the federal deficit as he held on social media for days on social media. Musk calls the bill “unpleasant and hateful.”
“He’s not saying that I’m personally bad about me, but I’m sure it’s going to be the next thing,” Trump said Thursday in his oval office. “But I am very disappointed in Elon. I have helped Elon a lot.”
Observers were wondering whether the friendship between the two rude billionaires known for their humiliation online would be dramatically burning. I did so less than a year later.
White House aides were ecstatic at the drama being played on the duel platform on Thursday, sharing the latest twists and turns from the feud between the boss and former colleagues, as well as social media reactions and memes. Officials in a very online administration have personally expressed the belief that this will work well in his favor, like other digital brawls that defined Trump’s political career.
Trump said Thursday in his oval office that he and Musk had a great relationship but he meditated, “I don’t know if we’ll do that anymore.”
He also said that he has “overwhelmedly missed it” and that people who leave those who “really become hostile.”
“It’s kind of like Trump crazy syndrome. I think they’re calling it,” he said.
He put aside the efforts of the billionaires selected for him, including a $1 million voter sweepstakes a day in Pennsylvania last year. The surge in cash musk showed that he was willing to spend it seemed to set him as a highly coveted ally for future Republicans, but his division with party leader Trump raises questions about whether they or others will see such a campaign sparking in the future.
Trump said the bill “has been causing problems” as Musk rolls back tax credits for electric vehicles.
“Fake” fired masks on his social media platform while the president continued to speak. “This bill has never been presented to me and he died late at night so no one in Congress could even read it!”
In another post, he said Trump could keep spending cuts but “throw away the bill’s disgusting pile of pork.”
In addition to the fact that masks are “disturbed” by the electric vehicle tax credit, Trump said another issue was the promotion of masks for Jared Isakuman, who runs NASA. Trump retracted Isaacman’s nomination over the weekend and called him “a complete Democrat” on Thursday.
Musk continued to throw his reactions on social media. He shared several posts that Trump criticised Republican spending more than a decade ago.
“Where is the man who wrote these words?” Musk wrote. “Has he been replaced by a body double?!”
Trump’s red Tesla was still sitting in the car park on Thursday afternoon at the White House property.
