Tehran – Health Ministry officials say all diagnosis and medical services for the treatment of tuberculosis are free in the country.
Approximately 15 million people in Iran suffer from potential tuberculosis. So they’ve lived with this infectious disease for years, but they’re not sick and don’t pass on tuberculosis to others.
She made her remarks on March 24th, marked annually on World Nodule Day.
She added that diagnosis, hospitalization and drug therapy for these patients is free, she said more than 7,000 patients with tuberculosis have been identified in the country in the past Iranian calendar year.
Every year, World Tuberculosis Day commemorates the rise of public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and strengthening efforts to end the global tuberculosis epidemic.
The date was in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered a bacteria that causes tuberculosis.
Global efforts to combat tuberculosis have saved an estimated 79 million lives since 2000. However, the dramatic and sudden cuts in global health funds currently taking place threaten to reverse these benefits. Increased drug resistance, particularly throughout Europe, and ongoing conflicts in West Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, have further exacerbated the most vulnerable situation.
