Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan attended the events held in Ankara and observed democracy and national unity, the Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz recalled how millions of citizens responded to Erdogan’s call on the night of the coup and responded to defend their elected government.
In a statement on X, Yilmaz pledged to preserve its legacy along the “Turkey Century” and strengthen national solidarity in commemoration of those who lost their lives and veterans.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in the post that attempts to overthrow the government were defeated by Erdogan’s “foresight” and the “unwavering will” of the Turkish people.
“Bettler networks pursuing the goal of bringing Turkey to their knees by working with foreign intelligence agencies are seriously underestimating our country’s unwavering commitment to freedom and justice, and the strength of our nation,” he wrote.
Fidan paid tribute to the “heroic martyr” and expressed his gratitude to the veterans who stood up to the plotters of the coup.
Communications Director Bruhanettin Duran described the failed coup as evidence of “heroic resistance,” and praised the people who flooded the streets on July 15, 2016.
“We cannot fully repay our debts to martyrs and veterans who have put everything at risk with unwavering courage,” he said. “But we will continue to carry on historical reforms that we are proud to be fulfilled.”
The attempted coup d’etat killed 252 people and injured 2,734.
