TEHRAN – Rashid Meredov, the Cabinet Chairman of the Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, have arrived in Tehran for high-level discussions with Iranian officials.
Esmaeir Bakaei, a spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that Meredov had made landfall in Tehran on February 11th. The visit is part of a regular political consultation held between Iran and foreign ministers of Turkmenistan in response to an official invitation from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut.
Beyond his role as Turkmenistan’s top diplomat, Meredov also chairs the Joint Economic Cooperation Committee of Iran and Tormanistan.
During his stay in Tehran, he is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials, discussing ways to strengthen political, economic and trade ties. Key topics on the agenda include energy cooperation, transportation links and expanding trade exchange between the two countries.
Iran and Turkmenistan share deep, deep-rooted historical and cultural ties, along with a long-standing tradition of economic and political cooperation. Their geographical proximity has encouraged strong partnerships, particularly in sectors such as energy, transportation and commerce. Over the past few years, the two countries have worked to deepen these relationships and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
The importance of strengthening bilateral relations was further emphasized in a recent telephone conversation between Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian and Turkmenistan’s national leader, Ghavangli Berdimhadou. The call, which came on Monday, focused on strengthening partnerships in the areas of peace, economic development and cultural exchange.
During the debate, Pezeschkian welcomed Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2025 the “International Year of Peace and Trust” of the country. He also emphasized the need for greater cultural cooperation as a means of strengthening relations between the two countries.
Pezeschkian also emphasized the strategic importance of interstate cooperation along the coast of Caspia. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional cooperation and support for environmental initiatives aimed at preserving the Caspian Sea.
On his part, Berdimumhamedow emphasizes the importance of expanding cultural and artistic exchanges, and such initiatives could serve as a bridge for a deeper understanding between Iranian and Turkish people. I pointed out that it is sexual. He reiterated Turkmenistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through shared cultural and historical connections.
