“The meeting with the US team has begun very constructively. We are committed to bringing fair and lasting peace,” Ukrainian Presidential Director Andriy Yahmack wrote in Telegram.
“Thanks to US leadership and European support, we Ukrainians can ultimately achieve peace. However, we cannot allow the Russian Federation to escape responsibility,” he said, Anadolu News Agency reported.
Speaking to a Jeddah journalist, Yamak also emphasized the importance of security assurances to prevent future attacks.
“Security is guaranteed. It’s very important because we hope that this attack won’t repeat in the future. Of course, it’s very important. But now we think we need to discuss what’s most important: how to start this process. And we’re very open and we want to have a conversation with our American partners that are very constructive, deep, friendly,” he said.
According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian delegation includes Vice-Chief of Pavlo Palisa, Foreign Minister Yermak, Andrii Sybiha and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
On the US side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz are taking part in the talks.
There is no envoy of the US President for Middle Eastern Stephen Witkov and Trump’s special envoys to Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg, who participated in previous negotiations in Riyadh.
