Reuters ammunition produced by defense technology company Helsing is currently being deployed in the Sumy region.
According to Bild Newspaper, approximately 1,000 HF-1 drones have already been delivered to Ukraine, with a total of 10,000 being projected under the defence cooperation agreement. The drone model was first reported in November 2024, and Germany announced plans to send 4,000 lo ammunition to Ukraine.
In early 2025, Helsing confirmed that both the HF-1 and its new model, the HX-2, would be offered as part of this package.
The HF-1 drone features an onboard artificial intelligence system designed to autonomously detect, identify and lock targets. However, the Ukrainian military now operates drones manually, leading them to a given target and using terminal guidance systems to bypass Russian electronic warfare (EW) defenses in the final stages.
The operator will explain the flight duration of about an hour and an effective operating range of 45-50 km, but the drone can technically reach up to 100 km.
