Speaking to a New York journalist on Thursday, he highlighted the systematic destruction of Gaza’s food, water and health care system.
Guterres expressed concern over Israeli military aggression in Gaza city, noting that it represents a serious escalation of hostility.
“The hundreds of thousands of already exhausted and hurt civilians will be forced to flee again, bringing their families into even greater danger.
He characterized the ongoing violence as part of a “endless catalogue of fear,” and called for accountability to those in charge.
“Gaza is loaded with potential violations of rubb, bodies and international law,” he said, warning that hunger is a current reality, not a future threat.
The UN chief emphasized that the humanitarian crisis is the result of intentional actions that ignore basic human rights.
He urged Israel to fulfill its obligations by ensuring the provision of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine as an occupation right.
Guterres called for greater humanitarian access to Gaza and for the protection of civilians and infrastructure.
He has issued a special warning about Israel’s plans to strengthen military operations in Gaza City.
Guterres said, “Civilian hunger should not be used as a way of war. Civilians must be protected, humanitarian access must be hampered. There is no further excuse. There are no more obstacles.”
The Israeli regime’s brutal genocide against Gaza since October 2023 has killed nearly 62,900 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
Over half a million people are already facing hunger in Gaza City alone.
