According to Al Jazeera, EU leader Francesca Albanese over the detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital, urged EU leaders to act.
“I officially ask the EU leaders (Ursula) von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas what they took to set up thousands of hostages to free Dr. Abu Safia and thousands of other Palestinian hostages.
Abu Safia, 51, was taken to Israeli forces in Gaza in December to move to SDE Teiman military detention camp in the Negev desert in southern Israel, then moved to a prison near Ramallah on the occupied west bank.
His lawyer previously told Al Jazeera that Abu Safia was subjected to “severe torture and inhumane treatment” during his detention.
Amnesty International also condemned Israel’s actions, saying “Dr. Abu Safia’s arrest and ongoing arbitrary detention without accusations or trials reflect the systematic targeting of Palestinian health workers in Israel.”
