The United Nations said on Tuesday that Israeli forces have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians seeking food aid in Gaza since the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began operations.
Officially, in a private effort, the GHF began operations on May 26 after Israel halted supplies to the Gaza Strip for over two months, causing a warning of hunger.
The GHF operation is undermined by nearly a day’s reports of Israeli forces who fired fire at people waiting to collect rations on Palestinian territory, which are attempting to destroy Hamas.
“Since the start of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces while they are trying to get food in Gaza,” Thameen Al-Kheetan, a spokesman for the UN Human Rights Office, told AFP.
“As of July 21, we recorded 1,054 people killed in Gaza while trying to get food. Of these, 766 were killed near the GHF site and 288 were killed near the aid convoys of the United Nations and other humanitarian groups.”
Kheetan added: “Our data is based on information from multiple trusted sources on the ground, including medical teams, humanitarian and human rights organizations.”
