President Trump said Wednesday that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of the Gaza peace agreement.
“We welcome the announcement of an agreement to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, based on a proposal proposed by President Donald J. Trump,” Secretary-General Guterres said.
He called on all parties involved to abide by the terms of the agreement.
“The United Nations will support the full implementation of the agreement, scale up the provision of sustained and principled humanitarian relief, and advance recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip. I urge all parties to seize this important opportunity to recognize the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and establish a credible political path to ending the occupation, leading to a two-state solution where Israelis and Palestinians can continue to live in peace and security,” Guterres said.
