French President Emmanuel Macron, alongside Saudi Arabia, was the CO sponsor of the June 17-20 meeting, urging European allies, including the UK, to support the Palestinian state during the rally.
Macron previously described perceptions as “moral obligations and political requirements.”
However, French officials have notified Israeli counterparts that the summit will no longer serve as a platform for formal recognition.
Instead, the focus will move on an outline of the roadmap to recognition, subject to a series of measures from the Palestinian side, the Guardian reported.
These conditions reportedly include a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of Israeli prisoners of war held by Hamas, reforming the Palestinian authorities, reconstructing the economy of Gaza, and the critical end to Hamas’ rule on its territory.
The change comes amidst pressure from the US, and reports that it has urged Paris and London to restrain it.
Last week, Israeli diplomat Aron Pincus said in the Middle Eastern eye that the French push is “serious and has most support from the European Union and Saudi Arabia.”
Israeli French ambassador Joshua Zarka is also known as Macron’s initiative “mortal.”
