Uruguay’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the Israeli Cabinet’s decision to occupy Gaza city, calling the move a “serious violation of international law” and issued a statement warning that it could deepen the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The ministry said the decision undermines efforts to arrive at a peaceful resolution to the conflict over the years and reaffirms Uruguay’s commitment to international peace and security. The 19 countries expressed support for the New York Declaration on the peaceful reconciliation of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of solutions for two states, announced at a high-level international conference held on July 28th-29th.
According to the statement, the declaration provides a “comprehensive practical roadmap” to address the political, security, humanitarian, economic and legal aspects of the conflict and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. It also emphasizes the willingness of the signatories to acknowledge the Palestinian state.
Uruguay emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue and regional integration as key components of the two state solutions. The government also called for the creation of a robust post-conflict framework in Gaza, including concrete plans for reconstruction and long-term stability.
