The Uruguay Anti-Imperialist Commission for Solidarity with Cuba and the World has condemned the deployment of more than 4,500 US Marines in the Caribbean, and it has been reported that missile cruiser USS Lake Erie, nuclear attack attack submarine USS Newport News, and other votes will move to Venezuelan Waters.
According to Telesur, the coalition issued a statement denounced the Trump administration of “outside the provisions of international law” and raising “severe threats to peace, security and local stability.”
The group called for Colombia as President of CELAC Protempore to a meeting of foreign ministers to deal with the crisis. It also reminded Washington of its obligations under the 1967 Treaty of Troterolco. This bans nuclear weapons in the region.
Framing the accumulation as the latest in a string of hostile measures, from sanctions to lockdown, the statement expressed unwavering solidarity with Venezuela, urging Latin America’s unification against the “attack of imperialism.”
The statement comes as Venezuela faces what President Nicolas Maduro calls the most serious foreign threat of the century.
The forces, including warships, submarines, troops of over 4,500 and F-35 jets arrive as a US strike killed 11 people in the sea, and the ACT Caracas accuses them of a blatant violation of sovereignty.
