TEHRAN – Esmael Baghihai, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has denounced US airstrikes in Yemen, targeting major fuel ports, killing at least 58 people and injuring 126 people.
Baghaei called the attack a “blatant violation” of international law and the UN Charter.
On Friday, Baghhai described the airstrikes as a clear example of a US attack, accusing the US of supporting Israel’s actions in Palestine, linking them to wider regional dynamics. “These US attacks, consistent with the occupation of Zionist regimes in Palestine and American support for genocide, are conspiring to Israeli crimes in Palestine and the wider regions,” he said.
Baghaei warned that such actions have contributed not only to Israel’s continued operations in Gaza and the West Bank, but also to the growing instability in West Asia. “The US attacks that have already targeted the critical infrastructure of a poor country and attacked civilians, further exacerbating local unrest and pose a serious threat to international peace,” he added.
A foreign ministry spokesman also expressed solidarity with the people of Yemeni and urged the global community to oppose violations of US international law and human rights. His statement followed a fatal US airstrike at Yemen’s RAS ISA fuel port on Thursday.
The US has been exploding airstrikes in Yemen since 2023, supporting Israel’s interests in the region, but Yemeni forces are retaliating by targeting Israeli and US assets. In response to the strike, Yemeni forces have stepped up attacks on US and Israeli targets, including ships bound to Israeli-occupied territory.
The situation in Gaza and the wider conflict remained tense, with Yemeni forces halting retaliatory strikes in January as part of a ceasefire agreement. This was eventually broken by Israel in March.
