U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent assured visiting Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko during a meeting in Washington that the United States stands ready to work with its G7 allies to “significantly increase pressure on Russia.”
Bessent “reiterated the United States’ commitment to work with G7 partners to significantly increase pressure on Russia,” according to a U.S. Treasury press release. “We underlined the need for our European allies to intensify their pressure campaign not only against Russia, but also against all economies that purchase Russian oil,” he said.
Mr. Bessent also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Sviridenko for his continued support of the U.S.-Ukraine Recovery Investment Fund.
Earlier, Andrei Yermak, head of President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s office, announced that a Ukrainian delegation led by Sviridenko would head to the United States to request weapons. Yermak said the Ukrainian side would discuss strengthening its air defense and “strike capabilities.” He specified that the Ukrainian delegation will also discuss energy cooperation in the run-up to the winter.
