Iranian oil minister Mohsen Paknejad says President Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign, which aims to drive Iran’s oil exports to zero, is a dream and will never come true.
The “maximum pressure” campaign is a failed policy that has been previously tested and failed to produce results, said Paknejad is responding to Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against Iran.
He also welcomed Iran’s self-sufficiency in a variety of fields, including the oil industry and the development of oil and gas fields.
Trump has signed a memorandum of understanding from the president to restore the “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran that he began in his first term.
“So this is what I was torn apart,” the US president said, referring to the memo. “I want everyone to sign me. I do that. It’s very difficult in Iran.”
He then insisted that the US wanted to make a deal with Iran.
“We’ll either arrange a contract with Iran or see if we can resolve it,” he said.
Trump said signing the memo was “unfortunate” but said “we had no choice because we had to be strong and solid.”
“And I hope it has to be used in a totally wonderful way,” the US president said.
