According to Mehr News Agency, citing Asharq al-Awsat, the Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed that the first deployment of the US-made terminal high-altitude area defense (THAAD) system has begun in the kingdom.
These systems are designed to intercept short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles.
The deployment was launched at a ceremony at the Air Defense Research Centre in Jeddah State following a training programme conducted in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense said the move aims to strengthen the country’s air defense capabilities and protect its strategic areas.
Meanwhile, the American magazine Newsweek reported that the THAAD system, which is relied on by the Zionist regime to protect against retaliatory missile attacks from Iran and Yemen, was unable to intercept missiles fired in occupied areas from these countries.
Newsweek also revealed that the US has consumed almost 20% of the world’s THAAD missile reserves in its recent efforts to support Tel Aviv against the waves of missile strikes.
