Special envoy of the US President Stephen Witkov has arrived at Vnukovo Airport near Moscow.
“Russian Presidential Envoy Kiril Dmitriev met Stephen Whitkov at Vnukovo Airport,” the source said.
Finally, Witkov came to Moscow on April 25th for a meeting. Before that, he was in St. Petersburg on April 11th. This is Witkov’s fifth visit to Russia since the beginning of this year.
Previously, US President Donald Trump said sanctions could be imposed on Russia on August 9 if a settlement to the Ukraine crisis was not reached by that time.
However, he pointed out that Russia is doing a good job dealing with sanctions. When asked if Russia could avoid sanctions from the current US administration, Trump said the deal would need to be closed as this would stop people from dying.
On July 14, Trump said that if Moscow and Washington fail to reach an agreement on a Ukrainian settlement within 50 days, the US will impose approximately 100% import duties on Russia and its trading partners. On July 29, Trump said he had decided to shorten the period to 10 days.
On August 5, Trump noted that the US will decide whether to later impose import obligations. He said further measures in the United States will depend on the outcome of future talks by his special envoy Stephen Witkov in Moscow.
