About 200 US troops will join the multinational force monitoring and supporting the implementation of a ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip, US officials announced on Thursday, Anadolu News Agency reported.
“The US military is not going to enter Gaza,” one official, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity, insisted. The exact location will be discussed on Friday.
Instead, the official said, he would be tasked with establishing an initial “joint control center” and then building an appropriate force structure capable of carrying out the defined mission, before working on integration with other countries’ militaries “to resolve conflicts with the Israel Defense Forces.”
Adm. Bradley Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), “will oversee, observe and make sure there is no breach or intrusion. Everybody is concerned about the other person,” another official said.
“A lot of it will be overlooked,” he said.
