Tehran – Uzbek Minister of Science and Innovation, Uzbek, Minister of Science and Innovation, stressed the need to strengthen scientific and technological collaboration between the two countries in a meeting with Minister of Science, Hossain Shimaei Saraf.
The two staff met on the sidelines at the ninth meeting of the Minister of Education of the Shanghai Cooperation Agency (SCO) held in Ulmki, China on May 12th and 13th.
With reference to the joint technology parks established in Uzbekistan, Sharipov highlighted further expansion of these technology centres, the IRNA reported.
The official highlighted the previous agreement between Sharif University of Technology and Uzbekistan, saying the country is willing to further expand these cooperation. He expressed optimism that cultural commonality between the two countries would help them strengthen their bonds.
On his part, Simaei-Sarraf emphasized the need to jointly establish more technology parks and international innovation zones.
Officials have invited them to participate in the second ministerial meeting of the Islamic Cooperative Organization (OIC-15) Dialogue Platform, which will be held in Tehran from May 18th to 20th.
The ninth meeting of the SCO Minister of Education was attended by the Minister of Education, SCO Member States, Experts and Scientists, who specialize in developing educational contacts within the organization.
In a side job at the conference, Simaei-Sarraf visited an exhibition entitled “Chinese Research, Brand Identity, Comprehensive Services Platform” to showcase the latest educational, research and technical achievements of over 20 Chinese universities in various fields such as agriculture, industry, oil and petrochemicals.
Ministers of science from other SCO member countries, including China, Belarus, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, also visited exhibitions primarily aimed at enhancing industry-university relations.
Officials also participated in the opening ceremony of the “China-China Asian Industry, Education and Applied Research Cooperation 2025 Conference” held in front of some SCO member states.
Tashkent aims to enhance Sci-Tech relationship with Tehran
In April, Dalib Shahruk Hozakbarovich, the first vice minister of higher education, science and innovation in Uzbekistan, called on Iranian universities and scientific institutions to support the development of Uzbekistan’s technology and innovation, saying that face-to-face interactions between scientific civil servants are far more effective than diplomatic communication.
The Uzbekistani official made a statement during a meeting with Farhad Yazdandost, head of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, on April 19, the IRNA reported.
During the meeting, the two staff discussed the possibility of developing scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries.
Officials said the cooperation could be focused on sharing expertise and expanding scientific cooperation between university prime ministers and expanding joint funding in the technical field.
Yazdandoorst detailed the scientific achievements and significant growth of student numbers following the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
Over 60 Science and Technology Parks operate under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He said, “We also plan to attract around 300,000 foreign students with a five-year plan.”
The formula emphasized that cooperation between the two countries could include conducting joint research, exchanging students and professors, and holding joint sports activities for students.
